BARCELONA, Spain – The new Nokia 6720 Classic isn’t a device that will be heralded by trumpets, nor will it seek out the spotlight. See, the new Nokia 6720 Classic is an understated yet quietly stylish S60 handset that doesn’t scream for your attention, yet its feisty array of unlikely features mean that this mid-range mobile sensibly commands serious inspection.

Last year Nokia began rapidly raising the bar on mid-range mobiles, with the introduction of intensely well-featured candybar callers such as the 6220 Classic and 6260 Slide. Now, today’s launch of the Nokia 6710 Classic feels like somewhat of a mini milestone in the evolution of mid-range mobiles, as here is a device with perhaps the largest heap of premium features in its league for relatively the smallest pile of cash – when it launches in the second quarter of 2009 it will go on sale for 245 Euros, after taxes and subsidies.
The Nokia 6720 Classic comes loaded with GPS, a compass and Nokia Maps 3.0, featuring integrated A-GPS. Alongside its location friendly navigation skills, sits a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and dual flash LED, meaning it’s fully geared up for geo-tagging the locations of your photos. Plus, the Nokia 6720 Classic has been tailored to make sharing images and videos as fast and effortless a process as possible via services such as Ovi share, with onboard high-speed upload technology (HSUPA) – likewise it’s equipped with HSDPA for rapid download speeds. It’s also a new addition to the limited line-up non Nseries devices to support N-Gage gaming.
Similarly, where the Nokia 6720 Classic is quietly stamping it mark is in the calling and battery departments. It comes with active noise cancellation, eliminating exterior sounds for much clearer voice calls. Battery-wise it’s upping the stakes offering around 8.5 hours of talk-time (GSM), with over 20 days of standby time, plus around 9 hours of video playback and 27 hours for music (its a music player and FM radio too). But the real coup has to be the fact that it delivers almost 14 hours of GPS pedestrian navigation and just over 7 hours of in-car navigation.
