GLOBAL – A reminder to the UK English writers here on Conversations that our idioms don’t make any sense whatsoever in much of the rest of the world. We talked about the Nokia X1-00 having a torch on the top, and offered it as an option in this week’s poll. Apparently, that means a burning stick-and-rag in many places. And while that combo might make for a pretty interesting device, what we meant was, of course, a flashlight. Thanks to Andy for pointing out the ambiguity and to irkafirka for making it the topic of this week’s illustration. Cheers!

Andy gets a framed copy of the illustration – or will if he gets in touch with some contact information. So might you if you leave an illuminating comment this week.
