Due to the ferocious holiday period October feels a long time ago, but at the height of autumn we announced our fourth MVC winner, the very talented and inspirational Tommi Vainionpaa.

Having used an array of Lumia’s through a number of years (N8 – Lumia 800 – Lumia 1020), Tommi captured a feast of autumnal visuals that rightly warmed our judges from head to toe.

As customary with our MVC award, we strive to enable our worthy winners to receive no ordinary prize and enjoy an experience both unique and memorable. Tommi had been snapping nature and landscapes at their finest, so what better prize than to send him to the picturesque Helsinki Zoo!

Though the cold weather bit hands, conditions could not have been better for such a day as it was a bright sunny winters day. Here’s Tommi (2nd left), the Nokia Finland team and an expert Zoo-keeper Mari Lehmosen – who guided Tommi throughout the day arriving at an enclosure.

Of course a trip to the Zoo was a perfect prize for Tommi as it allowed him to get up close and personal with animals that, if in the wild may be too unpredictable or difficult to find in order to photograph. This, along with a Lumia 1020 and knowledgeable Zoo guide enabled Tommi to take some great shots, as you can see below.

Tommi was granted access into the Eagle enclosure, an opportunity not freely available for many.

The Eagles flew continuously from end to end so getting a good shot of the great bird was tough, but using Nokia smart-camera with shoot-burst Tommi managed to get the shot he was seeking, the magnificent bird of prey parading its impressive wing span.

Tommi also had access to the Owl enclosure and went in to try to make a new friend and capture that perfect close-up shot. However the Owls were more interested with the faces peering in from the outside of the cage rather those joining them inside it!

Having been very patient Tommi got to capture a great close-up below, a very detailed image of a pair of Dwarf Mongoose

Tommi repeats the close-up it with this stunningly detailed tilt-shift image of a Lizard. Does anybody know what type of Lizard this is? Maybe Tommi can tell us in the comment below?

Finally, taken in low-light is this fine image of a snake curling his way around his territory.

How well do you think the Lumia 1020 did in the low-light of the dangerous reptile house?

Congratulations again to Tommi for winning the MVC prize, as you can see from the photographs he was more than a worthy winner!

Tommi isn’t the only one doing amazing things with Nokia though and we are open for January MVC nominations, so please get voting or entering your own projects!
