Cortana: your sports buddy

Whether you need reminding to pick up some milk when you’re at the store, need a weather update, or just looking for a local pizza place, Cortana‘s your man – well, woman.

Additionally, Cortana makes a great sports companion filled with useful knowledge about your favourite team.

Cortana’s arsenal contains a Notebook, the place where this intelligent digital personal assistant stores all the important information about you.

The best way to keep up-to-date with your team is to add it to the sports section within Interests. From here on out Cortana will notify you of any team updates.

However, there are other ways to find out about your team.

For instance, ask Cortana “When was the last Mariner’s game?”

You’ll promptly receive the date of the last game and a breakdown of the scores from both teams.

If you want a broader view across a league, you can ask Cortana to “Show me the latest MLB scores.” Cortana will naturally oblige.

And what of games that haven’t played yet?

Cortana, using Bing’s new prediction algorithms, can inform you which team has the best chance of winning based on a variety of factors, such as the wins, losses or draws record of the specified team.

For instance, for football, we asked: “Who will win, Brazil or Germany?”

Cortana responded: “That’s a close call, but Bing tells me Germany is the front runner”

For anybody following the big tournament, you’ll know that Cortana was right. In fact, she’s now made 14 out of 14 correct predictions.

If she continues her success, predicting the third place and final results, she’ll have doubled the previous record held by (wait for it) Paul the Octopus.

Follow the US Twitter account and #CortanaKnowsBest to see how she fares this weekend.

No matter which sport you follow: baseball, football, soccer, basketball, or others, Cortana can be your sports buddy, making sure you’re always up-to-date with your latest team’s progress.

Are you and Cortana sharing sporting memories?
