Sumeet Kale achieves more with his Lumia 730 despite India’s heavy rains

See how Lumia 730 helped tech evangelist Sumeet Kale brace for torrential rains in Mumbai, India and achieve more in his professional life.

Last month, we shared tips on how to prepare for a disaster with your Lumia smartphone. Now, let’s see how 22-year old Sumeet Kale, a developer with a startup, survived during the monsoon season in Mumbai and worked without any hiccups, thanks to his Lumia 730.

“I used Office on the go while I was waiting for buses, monitored rain updates and changing weather with the MSN Weather app, and saved a lot of time because of my Lumia,” said Sumeet.

A Windows Phone fan boy and a Lumia lover, he has grown up using Lumias and currently owns four Lumia smartphones: Lumia 730, Lumia 630, Lumia 520, and Lumia 710. 

“I have used Lumias ever since I bought my first smartphone,” Sumeet added. “The best part about a Lumia is its clean, unique user interface and Start screen with Live Tiles.”

We caught up with the young developer to get his #achievemore story.

Q: How do you use your Lumia 730 day-to-day?

A: I am a social media junkie and my Lumia lets me post and browse updates without logging into different apps. At times, I also ask Cortana do this.

I have recently moved to Mumbai and Here Maps has helped me explore the city without getting lost. Additionally, HERE Transit helps me with updated bus schedules and Here Drive+ lets me choose the most efficient route without traffic.

I have the MSN Weather app pinned on my Start Screen and never forget to grab an umbrella in times of erratic rains and stay updated with the local news around me with the MSN News app.

Q: How did you #achievemore with Lumia 730 when your city, Mumbai, was hit by heavy rains?

A: It was a near-flood situation and most offices were forced shut for two days. I was supposed to make a group presentation in my office, and the buses and trains were running slow, so I made the presentation on my Lumia. Also, I attended a client meeting via Skype that I couldn’t reach in time due to waterlogging.

Q: What makes Lumia 730 special?

A: It works so fast because of a powerful processor and 1 GB of RAM. Also, the clear black screen reproduces images with real color.

The full-HD 5MP wide-angle front-facing camera was the other reason I bought it [for selfies]. Also, I like to post photos on Instagram and its rear camera lets me take amazing images.

Q: Which Windows Phone app(s) do you recommend for increasing productivity and managing your way in a new city?

A: For getting the most out of your work, I suggest Skype, OneDrive, Office 365, Telegram Messenger Beta, and OneNote.

The must-have apps for surviving through rains or similar inclement weather conditions in any city are MSN Weather, Here Maps, HERE Transit, Here Drive+, and m-indicator (in Mumbai, or the local tube or train schedule app for your city).

Q: What do you do in your spare time besides developing?     

A: I love playing games on my Lumia whenever I am free. My favorites are Asphalt 8 : Airborne, Modern Combat 5: Blackout, Candy Crush Saga, QuizUp, Temple Run Oz, and Subway Surfers. If I am not gaming, I like to listen to music, chat with my friends, and delve deeper into the world of coding.
