Our 5 best new Windows Phone apps of the week

Get your Lumia at the ready, because it’s time for this week’s roundup of the 5 best Windows Phone apps.

We think you’re going to want to grab each and every app that we’ve dug up for you, they’re just that fantastic. Last week you chose the incredibly helpful WiFi analyzer WiFi Monitor as your top app, with photo locker Brilli Gallery Locker in an extremely close second place. Which of this week’s 5 apps will earn your vote in the poll? Take a look, give them a try, and let your voice be heard.

Photo Story (free)

What is it: an app to create video stories from your photos

Why we love it: Photo Story, the latest release from the experimental Microsoft Garage, lets you create very cool videos using your photos. Choose a day and Photo Story’s fancy algorithms will automatically select the best photos from that day or event (you can also hand select your favorites). Then choose a theme such as Travel or Party to add a little extra oomph to your story. Naturally, your story needs a soundtrack, which you can choose from a variety of tunes. The result? A slick compilation of your photos in a fresh, shareable video. Give it a try!

Who it’s perfect for: people looking for a new way to share photos

Xender (free)

What is it: an app to transfer files between devices using WiFi

Why we love it: Xender is a mega hit on other platforms, so we’re happy to see that it’s now available for Windows Phone. The cross-platform service lets you quickly transfer files such as documents, music, pictures, and more to other devices. You can send your stuff to up to 4 recipients in a group file share without needing to worry about data usage or internet connection. Size isn’t an issue either, since you can send files up to 10GB.

Who it’s perfect for: file sharers

Create A New Face (free)

What is it: a fun face changer

Why we love it: Create A New Face lets you, well, create a new face. The app offers 1350+ objects in different categories such as hair, glasses, eyes, and lips, which you can add to a photo to jazz it up. Simply add the objects to your image and then adjust brightness, contrast, saturation, gamma for a seamless and real looking new face. We volunteered our own Joel Willans to be our guinea pig, and while a black and white photo might not be the best choice, it’s definitely the funniest. Doesn’t he look great? Create A New Face is free, but you’ll need to pay $2.99 to get all the items.

Who it’s perfect for: anyone looking for a quick laugh

Reddit Reddhub (free)

What is it: an app for browsing Reddit

Why we love it: Reddhub, the popular desktop reader for Reddit, is now available for Windows Phone. The app offers “the full Reddit experience”, including login, posting, messaging, and more. The app is well-designed and lets you customize a variety of things to suit your redditing style. Reddhub is free to download, with the option to purchase upgrades. Unfortunately the app isn’t universal, but desktop users can get the upgrades for 50% off.

Who it’s perfect for: Redditors

CamScanner (free)

What is it: a document scanner

Why we love it: Many of you already know and love CamScanner, the handy little app that makes it super easy to scan and share documents. To make you love it even more, CamScanner recently received a nice update that added quite a few useful features to its list. Now you can choose resolution while scanning, zoom, scan QR codes, set a password, get a little help from Cortana, and more. Scan-tastic!

Who it’s perfect for: organized people who like to keep digital records of documents
