Burton’s free snowboarding app for Windows Phone 8 gets a big update

The snow season is starting to wind down, but there’s still time to get your Shaun White on. Snowboard powerhouse Burton today updated its free Windows Phone 8 app—available exclusively on Nokia Lumia phones—with two big new features. Download it from the Store

First, a quick recap. The app, which debuted earlier this month, provides snow forecasts, maps, and exclusive music mixes. All great stuff. But what really makes it a must-own is its innovative image sequencer, which captures cool action-sequence photos of your perfectly-executed Backside 180 Tailgrab, Double Cork, and other big air antics.  Check out the promo video below for a quick taste of how it works.

Now, version 1.1.1 adds two more sweet features. First, you can now track your ride time, speed, and vertical movement with the GPS-enabled Day Tracker. Cooler yet, you can also track your buddies on the mountain using the augmented reality Friend Finder feature. Give the app a try this weekend and let me know what you think. Finally, a few more app ideas for skiers and snowboarders from previous posts, here and here.
