Documentary chronicles challenges faced by Ukrainian game studio

Very few, if any, game studios have as many challenges as GSC Game World did while trying to finish a long-awaited sequel. “War Game: The Making of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2” is a documentary focused on the Ukrainian-based team and how they’ve overcome obstacle after obstacle, including working in a warzone and moving studios across countries.

Variety previewed the documentary, which is scheduled to release in early October.

Directed by Andrew Stephan, “War Game” centers on the very personal stories of creative director Maria Grygorovych and her team. Grygorovych emphasized to Variety how “scary” it was to agree to the proposal from Xbox to make the film.

“It wasn’t my dream to do this film. But I really think it’s important to share,” Grygorovych said.
