Today, we’re excited to reveal more details on how we’re partnering with the North American Aerospace Defense Command (“NORAD”) to create their most immersive Santa Tracker web site yet! A holiday staple for more than 50 years, NORAD Tracks Santa allows millions of people every year to watch Santa’s progress as he makes his annual trip around the globe. This year though the site is so much more — it now offers a breathtaking recreation of Santa’s Village, fun new games (a new one every day), holiday music and opportunities to get live updates on Santa’s location.
One of the most impressive aspects of the new site, is how it has been optimized for touch, so if you are using a touch device with a modern browser such as IE11, you will be able to experience it in an unbelievably rich and engaging way. From the ability to explore Santa’s Village with a flip of your finger to amazing game play to one-touch Skype calls to the NORAD Tracks Santa Operations Center, the best way to experience NORAD Tracks Santa is with IE11 on a touch device. On December 24th when NORAD starts tracking Santa, you will be able to follow his journey on the 3D globe and pinch and zoom your way to his many destinations. This experience works best on IE11 because it was designed from the ground up to be perfect for touch, plus it offers support for web standards like HTML5 and WebGL.
NORAD Tracks Santa is part of our larger Rethink initiative, to create real-world sites that push the limits of what is possible on the web today with a modern browser. Check out some of our other Rethink experiences, including The Hunger Games Explorer, Hover, Red Bull Rampage and Everest: Glaciers of Ice. And, learn more about the tech behind the site and IE11 at modern.iE.
We’ve had a wonderful time working with the folks at NORAD and our Microsoft colleagues to bring this site to life. Whether you’re roasting chestnuts over the fire, riding in a one-horse open sleigh or simply ready to enjoy the holidays, we encourage you to check out the NORAD Tracks Santa site for yourself!
