You might remember, back in October, we partnered with Red Bull to launch the Red Bull Rampage site, taking advantage of the latest web standards and showcasing an awesome 3D course for the event using WebGL. Tomorrow, December 21 at 3:30 PM EST, NBC and Red Bull will bring this event to an NBC channel near you! The Rampage site is the perfect companion to the broadcast providing you with an immersive experience where you can follow the riders on an interactive 3D map of the course, toggle between GoPro and event footage, see stats and background on the riders and watch behind-the-scenes video documentaries from the event.
Rampage is Red Bull’s ultimate freeride downhill mountain bike contest, which took place on October 11-13 in the Southern Utah desert. The event was live streamed in partnership with IE and after the event, we turned the site into a beautiful and rich experience that delivers all of the top highlights from Red Bull Rampage, best experienced in a modern browser like IE11. To bring some of this tech behind the site, we partnered with our friends at Pixel Lab who leveraged HTML5, WebGL and touch technology to create a new and innovative way to bring extreme sports to the web.
The Red Bull Rampage site is part of our larger Rethink initiative, to create real-world sites that push the limits of what is possible on the web today with a modern browser. Check out some of our other Rethink experiences, including NORAD Tracks Santa, The Hunger Games Explorer, Hover, and Everest: Glaciers of Ice. We hope these real world experiences inspire web developers all over the world to rethink what the web can be and explore the possibilities on their own.
