Twitter is all about connecting people and building a conversation, So with that in mind, here are five highlights of what I think are the coolest ways we are using Twitter to reach out to people across the world.
1. Community, Community, Community
Through our blood, sweat and tears (well, not really, but there’s certainly a lot of typing involved!), the Nokia Connects team have worked hard to build a living, breathing Nokia Connects community on Twitter. In the timeless words of Paul.C, who spends most of his time glued to the Nokia Connects Twitter stream:
‘We use Twitter to connect, share and interact with Nokia fans around the world. There’s nothing more exhilarating than reaching out to new people and bringing them into our community of talented, interesting, knowledgeable and overall awesome people!’
2. Amazing activities and competitions
We also like to get our Twitter community involved in whatever harebrained scheme we come up with (often with juicy Nokia goodies and devices to give away!) A personal highlight for me has been the ongoing #AmazingBackground competition, where we asked you guys to send us your amazing Nokia photos for us to use on our Twitter page. Cue a whole barrage of inspiring and breathtaking photos turning up on our Twitter stream – and last week we even held a special version of the #AmazingBackground competition for #NCphotoweek, where the winner got to trial a Nokia N8. Excitement all round!

3. Live events coverage
With Twitter being such a reactive, minute-by-minute microblog, it is also the perfect medium with which to cover live events happening across the globe where Nokia has a presence. Just check out out recent coverage of Mobile World Congress and Social Media Week. For Social Media Week, we also had the added excitement of the Nokia Connects Cab – where people in London and New York could tweet us for a free ride! 🙂
4. The Nokia Mapstronaut
Sometime at the end of last year, the Nokia Mapstronaut was making waves in the Twittersphere by asking people to tweet him secret locations, tips and tricks about their city that he could visit using Nokia Maps. After and epic 6 days spent exploring Berlin, Rome and London, the Mapstronaut hung up his suit – only to give one lucky winner the chance to go to Rome and experience the city for himself.
5. #FF
Anybody who’s anybody in the Twittersphere has heard of Follow Friday (or #ff, as it’s know in Twitterspeak), where you nominate someone you think your followers should be following. Well, Nokia have been putting a twist on the usual #ff tweet by turning them into Twitpics tailored to each Twitter user. A fun and creative way to keep the conversation going.
