Social Media Week 2012 Day #1: San Francisco, Hong Kong and Singapore

Time for a little wrap up from around the world. Members of the Nokia Connects team have been busy on the ground all over the globe at their respective Social Media Week 2012 events, so last night I caught up with them to find out about some of the cool stuff happening in San Francisco, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Hong Kong #SMWHK

Today is Valentine’s Day, so those delegates attending the Dwitter (Dating + Twitter) event at Social Media Week in Hong Kong should have noticed Nokia employees handing out 50 personalised red roses and chocolates to all attendees. If you got your hands on one of the roses you should be eligible to take part in our special Valentines competition.

Roses are red, violets are blue, if you attended the Hong Kong #Dwitter event we would love to hear from you – @Nokia_Connects. If you didn’t get your rose at the event you can tweet #NokiaValentine and the guys on the ground will tell you where the roses (and the chocolate!) can be collected from.

San Francisco #SMWSF

I’ve been speaking to our foreign correspondent Tom.H over in the USA about what’s been happening on the ground in San Fran. He has been busy bringing a smile to a few people’s faces, but he won’t just be making you smile on a Monday this week, he’ll try and make you smile everyday, for the whole of the week! Let’s see where the random acts of kindness have taken him so far:

Justin, a local San Francisco resident tweeted @Nokia_Connects to say his bike had been stolen, after asking how we could help he tweeted us to say he needed a time machine! Now, even Doc Brown would struggle to supply a working time machine in a few hours, so Tom.H thought about what the next best alternative was? How about a ‘Back to the Future’ box set, popcorn and a new water bottle for his other bike (that wasn’t stolen) – here was his reaction:

Tom later went down to the Music Tech Conference, which was part of #SMWSF. We thought what better place to hand out some free Nokia headsets? Here is Katie Carroll enjoying her present:

Singapore #SMWSG

We had lots of people attend the opening day of Social Media Week Singapore at Lucky 13. Product managers were on hand to talk about the Nokia Lumia 800 and we even ran a competition to win one!

Attendees had to tweet their favourite thing about the Lumia 800 and all tweets were projected on the wall of the event. The lucky winner was Merete Noer, he tweeted:

Here were just some of the highlights from the first few days of Social Media Week, we will be keeping you updated throughout the week. If you want a great real-time infographic to follow for the entirety of the week I suggest you check out our first Social Media Week post on Nokia Connects. For now though, that’s it. I will be back here tomorrow updating you all.

Seen anything amazing so far at #SMW12 around the world? Let me know @Nokia_Connects – don’t forget there is still a free Nokia Connects cab waiting around London ready to take you to your next SMW destination!
